This publication is something of a catalogue raisonne for the year. Very few photographic works are included other than images that document my artistic activity. Publishable photos may be found in a separate catalog. Otherwise, this book has almost every hand-made art work created during the year of 2012 including paintings, collages, drawings, sketches, and correspondence works. There may be a doodle here and there or a few unfinished works that have not be included, but this document accurately records the chronological order of at least 98% of the artwork for the year. Also included are documentation of exhibitions that Touchon was in or curated as well as collage poetry that was created over the course of the year.

  • BRIGHT!
  • Typography is the art and technique of arranging type in order to make language visible. The arrangement of type involves the selection of typefaces, point size, line length, leading (line spacing), adjusting the spaces between groups of letters (tracking) and adjusting the space between pairs of letters (kerning). In modern times, typography has been put into motion - in film, television and online broadcasts - to add emotion to mass communication. Typography is performed by typesetters, compositors, typographers, graphic designers, art directors, comic book artists, graffiti artists, clerical workers, and anyone else who arranges type for a product. Until the Digital Age, typography was a specialized occupation. Digitization opened up typography to new generations of visual designers and lay users. "Bright! Typography Between Illustration & Art" is a 420 page, bilingual (German & English), profusely illustrated compendium showcasing the immense variety and creativity of contemporary typography. Of special note are the interviews with seven outstanding typographer/artists: Ed Fella, Tracey Emin, Tobias Rehberger, Marc Titchner, Marc Jijl, Alex Hanimann, and Lawrence Weiner. An impressive and seminal collection, "Bright! Typography Between Illustration & Art" is a unique and highly recommended addition to personal, professional, and academic library Typography and Art History reference collections and supplemental reading lists. --Library Bookwatch, Midwest Book Review

  • The Last Vispo Anthology: Visual Poetry 1998-2008

  • This book collects experimental “visual poetry.”

With The Last Vispo Anthology, Fantagraphics spotlights the intersection of art and language in this innovative new collection — without peer in English — that gathers the work of visual poets from around the world into one stunning volume. The alphabet is turned on its head and inside-out and the results culminate in a compilation of daring and surprising verbo-visual gems.

The Last Vispo is composed of visual poetry (a portmanteau of the words “visual” and “poetry) from the years 1998 to 2008, during a burst of creative activity fueled by file sharing and e-mail, which made it possible for the vispo community to establish a more heightened and sophisticated dialogue with one another. The collection extends the dialectic between art and literature that began with ancient “shaped text,” medieval pattern poetry, and dada typography, pushing past the concrete poetics of the 1950s and the subsequent mail art movement of the 1980s to its current incarnation. Rather than settle into predictable, unchallenged patterns, this vibrant poetry seizes new tools to expand the body of work that inhabits the borderlands of visual art and poetic language.

The Last Vispo features 148 contributors from 23 countries on five continents. It includes 12 essays that illuminate the abundant history and the state of vispo today. The anthology offers a broad amalgam of long-time practitioners and poets new to visual poetry over the last decade, underscoring the longevity and the continued vitality of the art form.

Starfish #3, Autumn 05

Starfish is an un-dogmatic online quarterly journal of Surrealist - and surrealistic - literature. Poetry, prose, and critical theory are all considered. Starfish is intended to showcase any work of art that is dreamy and fantastic (excluding sci-fi), utilises cut-up or automatic writing, or has genuine (as genuine as you can get) interaction with the subconscious. The editors, PR Primeau & Dimitri Diakopolous, generally try to keep issues small, but all submissions are given fair consideration.

Starfish #3, Autumn 05 is just out and includes work from Donna Kuhn, Martin Marriott, Cecil Touchon, Carlos M. Luis, Christophe Casamassima, Adam Fieled, Amanda Earl, Catherine Ednie, Amy King, Geof Huth, jUStin!katKO, Steve Dalachinsky, John M. Bennett, Peter Ciccariello, and Andrew 'endwar' Russ.
